HomeSeer HomeTroller-Mini Linux Based Home Automation Controller

Recently Homeseer launched its new home automation controller called HomeTroller-Mini. It’s made in plug PC form-factor, has 1Ghz processor and gives ability to control Z-Wave devices. Homeseer also mentioned in its press release about supporting other protocols but didn’t clarify which ones.

The HomeSeer HomeTroller-Mini controller will be available in Q2 of 2011 at $300. It isn’t bad but you can build something similar by yourself. For example, using GuruPlug and LinuxMCE mini distribution you may get Z-Wave controller for about $100. Plus DIY fun.

HomeSeer iPhone HSTouch Client

HomeSeer offers its iPhone HSTouch client which allows to users control their HomeSeer-based home automation systems from anywhere. It just needs Internet connection of course. At the first glass the client looks very attractive. But it’d be nice to hear opinion somebody who uses it. Drop the comment if you do it.

The HSTouch client an be downloaded from iTunes App store without any charge. It works with HSPRO or with HS2 + HSTouch.

EU version of Z-Wave motion detector three-in-one

HSM100-EU

HomeSeer produced an European version of its Z-Wave motion detector HSM100HSM100-EU. Additionally to the motion detection it provides an information about illumination and temperature. The HSM100-EU has a range of 10 meters and requires 3 AAA batteries to operate. The motion sensor should work in any Z-Wave certified system. But the temperature and illumination sensors are supported by the HomeSeer software only. That really not good if you use some other home automation system.

The HSM100-EU is available on the HomeSeer site and tagged at $80.95.
