Testing a new build of LinuxMCE

Last Saturday I reinstall my test LinuxMCE system. I downloaded the latest build of 0710 Beta 3 for AMD64. Whole installation took about 15 -20 minutes and required two answers for the questions (I remember the Plutohome installation. It was a bit complicated and needed more time).

The reason why I reinstall my system is following. It was impossible to add a new MD there, even manually via admin interface. Most probably it was the result of not correct upgrade from i686 to AMD64 which was done earlier. Unfortunately, the problem still exists. But at least I can see in the log that MD is recognized by core but the installation process doesn’t complete by some reason. Maybe it’s a hardware issue, maybe there is some network error. Tonight I’ll play with it again.
LinuxMCE: groups of IR codes for A/V equipment
But there are at least two good changes in that version. The first of all. MythTV backend isn’t running now in case of using VDR. Grate, isn’t it? The second very useful feature is a possibility to send a test IR command from the page (on the picture) where proper group of IR codes should be chosen. I spent just a few minutes to send a command to my TV via GC100 and found appropriate group (Actually, it was the first group :)). Really good progress and good work!

Upgrade LinuxMCE 0710 Beta 2 to Beta 3 AMD64

Yesterday I upgraded my LinuxMCE 0710 Beta 2 installation (32bit) up to the latest Beta 3 (AMD64) successfully. I was ready to lose all media content and my customizations because the developers were not sure about correct working of upgrade procedure (it’s a beta anyway). So, I made a full backup of databases, DVB card firmware etc. But everything passed without any problems. All my preferences were transferred to the new version, media files were also saved. So, I just need to recompile the module for iMON VFD display for the new kernel because the original Kubuntu package doesn’t include possibility to manage “Good Bye” message displayed after box is shutdown.

I’m gonna play with the new version during weekend. So, I expect some feedback on Monday. Also, I have to finalize the way to install the Orbiter on Nokia770/N800/N810 to make it more convenient for the consumers.

LinuxMCE 0710 beta 3 is out!

Finally LinuxMCE beta 3 is available for downloading via Torrent. There are a version for AMD64 (I’m gonna test it on my 64bit box). It includes the latest Xine and MythTV, VDR, FreeBPX (replaced AMP), latest nVidia drivers etc. Full changes can be found here. Post your feedback here.

There is a way to upgrade existing installation (0704 or 0710) because installation for DVD will remove everything. Just will keep setting (but it’s better to do backup before upgrade). I thought upgrade my Beta 2 but finally decided install from DVD 64bit version. So, tonight I’m gonna be very busy (if DVD will be downloaded fast, of course).

Also, it’ll be possible to get test builds which will be created every six hours. So, now it’ll be much easily to test new versions.
