The iPhone Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit

The iPhone Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit

The iPhone Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit for Skype is not a product of Apple as you can think. It’s a new handset for VoIP from Cisco. It can be plugged directly into the ethernet jack. Just for $180 you may own a stylish phone which makes calls via Skype and traditional landline without PC.

Philips already announced its version Skype-phone which doesn’t need PC. I cannot compare functionality of iPhone and VoIP841 but Cisco phone definitely looks more attractive.

Keyspan Cordless VoIP Phone

Keyspan Keyspan has released a Skype-compatible Cordless VoIP Phone. It has 15 hours of talk time, 1200 hours of standby time, USB/AAA power. The phone is Mac and PC (MS Windows) compatible. It lacks Linux users and it’s not good. Anyway, hope they will add Linux support.

Phone communicates with the computer over a 2.4 Ghz radio signal that works through walls and furniture. The LCD display shows who is online, Skype status, battery level, and signal quality.

The price is just $79.00.

Gigaset S450 + Yahoo! Messenger

Gigaset S450 Siemens has announced Gigaset S450 cordless handset with support of Yahoo! Messenger. The S450 can work as a landline cordless phone but it also can handle Yahoo! Messenger sensibilities. To work with Messenger the phone comes with the Gigaset M34 USB to plug in into PC. The S450 also features:

  • one button to access your Yahoo! contact list (incl. presence status)
  • illuminated color display with icon-based menu
  • phonebook for up to 150 entries

Yahoo! Messenger with Voice seems strong competitor for Skype. It has an excellent user interface and voice features as well.

I read that Siemens also decided to throw in 250 free minutes of Yahoo! Phone Out with each purchase of the S450. It’s good point to buy a DECT cordless phone if you didn’t do it yet and if you Yahoo! fan.
