Live show with Quim Gil

Tomorrow at 9PM Arizona time (6 AM in Helsinki) Quim Gil - a Maemo Development Platform Product Manager will be a guest over Skype in the ThoughtFix live show. If you’d like to answer Quim call toThoughtFix over Gizmo and leave a voicemail message. Or you may use IRC chat room. Most probably your question will be chosen for show.

I won’t be able to wake up so early. So, I’m interested (as many other people) to see the recorded show next day. Hope I’ll have such possibility.

News of the day: Nokia acquires Trolltech

It seems that Nokia decided to add Qt into S60 and GTK acquiring Trolltech - company which develops alternative of GTK - Qt and participates KDE development. Just thinking about the next generation of Internet Tablets. Should we expect N820 with Qt and customized KDE instead of GTK and GNOME? In any case, I’m sure that Maemo will have to get some advantages from Qt and Trolltech’s experience. Will see.

N810 just ordered!

Finally Nokia resolved problems with codes for N810 developer program. So, yesterday I ordered N810 from Nokia on-line shop in UK. I have to wait 2 -3 days when device will be delivered to one of my friend in London and another 2 -3 days when UPS ships it to the Cyprus. I’d like to say many thanks to Nokia and Maemo for that program and support of open source development.

By the way, I’d like to introduce new Orbiter packages for LinuxMCe 0710 (Os2007 and Os2008) and Plutohome 2.0.0.44 (OS2008). They can be downloaded from the LinuxMCE/Plutohome Orbiter project page.

N810 maemo submission accepted

Nokia N810

My project - Plutohome Orbiter for Nokia770/N800 was accepted to the N810 maemo device program! Thanks to Nokia I’ll able to port and test the Plutohome/LinuxMCE Orbiter to the new N810 and smarthome folks will get a possibility to control their houses using Nokia’s Internet Tablet.

Thank you Nokia for the perfect gadgets and choice of Plutohome Orbiter project!

Nokia E65 as a Plutohome phone

Nokia E65

Nokia E65 is new and stylish mobile phone with built-in WiFi. But it has another cool feature - emulation of Cisco 7970. E65 can be connected to the Cisco Call Center as 7970. So, we decided to try add it to our Plutohome installation and see what’s happened. After a few hours of unsuccessful attempts we configured E65 as SIP phone and connected it to the Plutohome Asterisk. It works great! Now outside the office E65 is a mobile phone but near the Plutohome access point it allows to make cheap calls via Asterisk.

We didn’t give up with installation of emulator of Cisco 7970 in the E65. I don’t think that in might be useful (the XML Orbiter won’t provide wide functionality) but we try it again.
