LG Blu-ray player will support YouTube

LG Blu-ray and YouTube

Recently Samsung announced its new series of Blu-ray players with support IP TV Netflix. That’s really cool to have one device to watch DVD/Blu-ray disks and online TV. Additionally to that LG decided to add possibility to watch YouTube and CinemaNow videos on its next gen decks. The new device will be demonstrate January 7 in Las Vegas and more details will come.

LG’s BD300 Netflix Blu-ray player UI looks nice

BD300-Home-Menu

Recently I wrote about new LG’s BD300 Netflix Blu-ray player which can play-back stream from Netflix on-line movie rent service. Here is another details about that interesting device. It has amazing UI (have a look on the screenshot). The BD300 can also play-back media content from networked PC or memory stick attached to the player’s USB port.

The BD300 will support Profile 2.0, interactive BD-Live features and Bonus View (picture-in-picture commentaries and special features).

Blu-ray player works as Netflix client

LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player

LG announced its new stylish BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player. It can play high definition Blu-ray discs and up-convert standard DVDs to 1080p. But this is not a reason to pay $500 for BD300. The most interesting feature is possibility to use that player as a Netflix client (Netflix is the world’s largest online movie rental service, with more than eight million subscribers). So, using BD300 Netflix subscribers will able to stream more than 12,000 choices of movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the TV for no additional charge. Sure it possible to use Roku to watch rented movies from Netflix. But it’s good idea to have combination DVD/Blu-ray and network player in one.

LG’s BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player will be available in US this September. So, movie fans, don’t miss it!

LG plasma TV includes PVR

LG Plasma

LG made a clever move. Its 55PB2DR 55 inch plasma TV includes PVR functionality! LG already has another plasma with a built-in PVR - 60PC1D. It includes 160 GB of storage, allowing 13 hours of HD recordings and 63 hours of standard definition video. The 55PB2DR is simpliest. It allows to pause, record, and replay TV programs up to two hours past the original broadcast. But it’s really cool approach. You shouldn’t place media PC near your TV, install and configure any media center software. You should just switch on your plasma and that’s it. Sure, the media center may give you more features. But TV with built-in PVR will be right for 40-50% of all TV fans at least. So, LG did a big step forward in TV industry.

TV with built-in DVR

Plasma TV with built-in DVR
LG released a new Plasma-TV which allows to pause Live TV - 42PC1RR. It’s possible due to the fact that the TV has built-in DVR with 80GB recording capacity. So, without any others devices you can store up to 30 hours of TV programmes. This is a good tendency to put related devices in one. On the one hand users lose flexibility as in case of stand alone DVR such VDR. But on the other hand users cannot do anything except plug and configure the 42PC1RR. For ordinary users the second way is the most preferable.
