Building a new LinuxMCE hybrid core
I decided to build a new LinuxMCE hybrid core for my home installation. I spent a lot of time to find a right hardware for it. The most difficult thing was a case. It isn’t so easy to find something nice looking, not so big, with reasonable price and possibility to ship on Cyprus.
Finally I found Nmedia HTPC 500 BA for €149.95. I like its design, size, price. Everything. But I couldn’t see any information about shipping to Cyprus (bad luck). The rest parts are following:
- MB: ASUS M2N DeLuxe
- CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850e 2.50GHz AM2 BOX
- CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS8000 Ultra Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler
- RAM: 2GB DDR2 800
- Video: ASUS GeForce 6200 LE
- HDD: 250GB SATA
- DVB: Technotrend S2-3200 HDTV-S2 or S-1500
- PSU:Zalman ZM300B-APS 300W
Another good variant is using MSI Media Live barebone. It doesn’t have second Ethernet port and has just one PCI expansion slot (will be used for DVB card for sure) but it provides a wide range of A/V outputs and looks very attractive. Additionally it’s equiped by large VFD, IR receiver and it’s shipped to Cyprus! The rest stuff which I need includes following:
- CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850e 2.50GHz AM2 BOX
- RAM: 2GB DDR2 800
- HDD: 250GB SATA
- DVB: Technotrend S2-3200 HDTV-S2 or S-1500
Still thinking but it seems I’ll by MSI Media Live.
